Curriculum
Our curriculum is based upon the English National Curriculum with certain modifications to reflect our Central European location and internationally diverse pupil body. The school takes children as young as 2 and half years. The youngest children concentrate upon creative play with gradual inclusion of pre-reading and pre-writing skills as they approach the age of 5 years.
Our formal educational programme starts in Reception (Kindergarten) for the 4 to 5 year olds. Subjects are taught using a child-based approach integrating practical activity and academic rigour. Students do much of their work individually in mathematics and language whilst working in small groups for other subjects.
We use high quality teaching resources purchased mainly from British suppliers. These materials have been developed in recent years to meet the requirements of the National Curriculum and to allow a child-centred approach to teaching. Homework plays an important part in our curriculum and so all pupils from Year 1 upward have work to do at home on a regular basis.
The subjects currently offered to our pupils include: English, Mathematics, Science, Design and Technology, Information and Communication Technology, History, Geography, Art, Music, Physical Education and Swimming, Drama and Slovak. In addition, pupils in Year 3 and above also study German. From Year 7 French is an available option, and from Year 10 we introduce Business Studies.
Students aged from 14 to 16 study courses for 2 years which lead to examinations for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) of the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES), usually taken at the age of 16. Students aged from 16 to 18 continue with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, a passport to university entry worldwide.
Those students who require support in English receive extra tuition either individually or in small groups, whilst remaining integral members of their class.
